Sarasota Memorial Hospital was ranked the seventh best hospital in Florida, tied with Baptist Hospital of Miami, on a list released Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report.  Ahead of Sarasota Memorial were Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Tampa General Hospital, Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Cleveland Clinic Florida in Weston and Florida Hospital Orlando.

Other hospitals in Southwest Florida on the list included Venice Regional Medical Center, which tied with Florida Hospital Waterman in Tavares at No. 26.

The magazine and website evaluated 5,000 hospitals across the country based on patient survival rates, infection rates, the number of times a given procedure is performed, and staffing.

The rankings also take the hospital’s reputation into account.
